Links by Chapter

As promised, here are all of the links from the text of my book, 20 Questions to Ask Before Selling on eBay. They are organized by chapter to make it easier to navigate.

Chapter 1: What equipment do I need to sell on eBay?

eBay Toolbar: Download it here.

Chapter 3: What should I sell and for how much?

Terapeak Marketplace Research: Marketplace and product research
Completed Items Research Form: Download in Word format
Luxury Brands LLC: Pallets of brand name items

Chapter 4: How will I get paid?

PayPal - the most popular and eBay's favored form of payment.
Bid Pay- NOTE: BidPay no longer offers auction payments (see eBay changes page).

Chapter 5: What will eBay charge me?

Fee Structure: eBay has a habit of changing their fees from time to time, so here is the link to check the most recent tables.

Chapter 6: How can I take professional photos with my camera?

Free Third Party Image Hosting: Ink Frog or Photo Bucket.

White Balance: I talked about the difference in white balance settings. Here you can see the difference from the automatic setting (left) and the manually adjusted setting to tungsten (or incandescent) light.

Jim Salvas is a photography expert. You can read his tips for excellent photography on his website. One look at his auctions will show you just how good he is at this. He sells photography related equipment and supplies which are always worth checking out.

Chapter 7: How do I build credibility as a seller?

ID Verify

SquareTrade: I am a big fan of SquareTrade. I was fortunate enough to meet some of their team at eBay Live 2005 and they are the most helpful bunch of people I met there. I love their services too. I recommend SquareTrade to any seller (small or large). It is worth the monthly fee for the increased credibility (and thus bids) you get.

BuySafe is a bonding service which conducts an inspection on your business and identity verification on you. For this reason, it is not for new sellers, but those more experienced (particularly those selling high-ticket items) should consider it as an option. There is no monthly fee, you pay 1% of the final selling price of items you choose to bond (note: you do not have to bond every item you list).

Chapter 11: How do I write an item description that sells?

The Final Listing: As promised, here is the full listing pulling together everything we discussed in the chapter. Once you view it you will see why it wouldn't have worked printed in the book. Link to separate page with just the text, doesn't need to be on a page with the headers, etc. Blank with just the text will work.

Chapter 12: What listing options should I choose?

AuctionBytes surveys and resources are very comprehensive and worth looking at:

David Steiner's Interactive Start/End Day Calendar

The most popular day/time to end an auction survey results: Not only are these results for the last 6 years, but they are also broken down by category too! This is a really useful chart to look at. (note: scroll down to see the tables with the results)

AuctionBytes Update and AuctionBytes NewsFlash: These two free newsletters will keep you up to date on all the current news involving the online trading community. If you do nothing else I suggest. Subscribe to these newsletters! (note: the subscribe area is to the very top left of the homepage).

Chapter 13: What about payment, shipping and handling?

Sales Tax Registration: Click HERE to select your state and access their specific sales tax registration form/instructions.

Chapter 19: My item sold! Now what?

Go to the eBay Shipping Center for more detailed information on the shipping process. Of you can order USPS shipping supplies with the eBay brand logo directly from the USPS.

How to get a buyer's phone number (you will need the item number and user ID).

Chapter 20: How do I set up a business for success?

Diane Kennedy's www.taxloopholes.com has a feature designed for auction sellers.

My book hits store shelves on January 28. Pre-order your copy from either of these online retailers:
